I'm about to push a VPN service public after a fews months of testing and one of the main features is it's DNS level 'bullshit blocker' (Ads, trackers, known malware, etc). It works well and I'm getting the blocklists dialed in. /f/incoghost for more of that because I try to keep RAMBLE and that project separate.
I've thought about setting up a free, public use DNS service using the same blocklists.
I know a AdGuard does something similar, but they don't block all ads (Example: I've got a Spotify list I'm trying to dial in a bit better, blocks Spotify ads) and it doesn't hurt to have additional options.
Would be an anycast setup, so the DNS server that'd serve your requests would be whatever one is geographically closest to you / your connection.
Of course, no logging, pro privacy, no custom redirects or custom error pages to show you ads or affiliate junk.
If there are any realistic features that could be implemented that you'd like to see that don't already exist in other free, public services, let me know!

I personally use opennic for dns and mvps hosts for blocks, so I wouldn't need it. But keep up the good work.
