I'm quite new to i2p so I'm still getting my bearings. I found this thread:

http://ramble.i2p/f/I2P/629/the-easiest-way-to-get-the-most-out-of-i2p-update-your

It's old and I've replied, but I figure not many people will see it so I'm posting my issue here.

I use this I2P software: http://i2p-projekt.i2p/

I was able to add the subscriptions suggested in that thread, but I am having trouble with the outproxy.

  1. First, my understanding is that an outproxy would allow my to visit regular internet sites without my IP being traceable? So I should be able to visit things like regular google.com
  2. I tried purokishi.i2p but it seems to not be reachable. Is this temporary or has the service stopped? What else can I try and how do I properly test if it is working (currently I simply try to visit google.com).

Thanks!

welcome to i2p

purokishi is a good working outproxy last i checked, though the default outproxy is stormycloud: exit.stormycloud.i2p. outproxy.acetone.i2p is also one to try

So, I managed to get outproxy.acetone.i2p working but it is extremely slow. I am trying exit.stormycloud.i2p now which seems to be faster. Thank you!

Indeed, Stormycloud Is by far the most solid outproxy and hopefully it stays that way. If you wanna do like me, you can just add all three outproxies and the router normally resolves itself (separated by a "comma-space").

Currently, using http://isitup.i2p/result/ae4b19ee it seems to be down?

I have purokishi.i2p and outproxy.acetone.i2p working though...

Yeah well it happens. keeping more outproxies as a backup is a good thing nonetheless. Happy Browsing!

Got it, thanks. I've added a comma-separated list now, of all 3. Thanks again!

Hey I have a question: on the right hand side of these forums there is a section "Outproxies" which contains:

  • outproxy.acetone.i2p
  • purokishi.i2p
  • stormycloud.i2p

I noticed that stormycloud.i2p does not work, bui that seems to be because the correct address is exit.stormycloud.i2p

Could it be that purokishi.i2p also has a different actual name?

You are correct it should be exit.stormycloud.i2p Ill see if one of the mods can update it.

I am actually curious at how these would even be self-hosted(you know for personal experience on my part)

don't self-host this sort of thing publicly, even if you don't register it it will be found, use an encrypted leaseset

similar to tor exit node, http://zzzmirror.i2p/topics/3254 is a good read

tl;dr tinyproxy or 3proxy (there are others), haproxy could be used for load balance, privoxy not be good with lots of connections, zero hops allow for more multihomes and more speed/less latency

acetone is 1 hop, stormycloud and purokishi are both zero hop ( i think)

I have set up an outproxy on several machines recently, both stormycloud standard exit and purokishi worked. I did have to wait for a while before everything was stable and I could reliably send trafic through them though
