Yes, because they want a monopoly on selling the SSNs of their own citizens.

I've not really followed Dark Web news / drama / happenings outside of what maintainers of code like Tor, I2P, etc actually publish and of course they never comment on things like this. Just bug fixes, improvements, plans, and discussion about the network itself and not the content on it.
So what's the consensus on this guy? A Fed? Lucky? Too smart to get caught so he's back to do it 'right'? I had never heard of AlphaBay until recently when I saw on /r/i2p that the site was supposed to be on the I2P network this time instead of Tor. Is that true?
And yeah, Thai prison isn't anyplace a foreigner would want to wind up... South East Asia isn't really a place anyone should go to fuck around with drugs or anything trafficking related. Your stay at the "Bangkok Hilton" isn't going to be very comfortable.

In what nation was DoubleVPN registered? If it’s a business from any of the Nine Eyes nations, they were required by law to have all data recorded from all use by all customers, forever.

It looks that way. We'll just have to see if any court cases cite evidence from this raid. The Pure VPN logging scandal was revealed when a court case cited how the FBI tracked down the defendant.

maybe logs are just a bluff from EuroPol to freak people out.
awdrifter wrote
Doesn't sound like they actually took much then. If DoubleVPN accepted anonymous payment methods, the personal information they have is probably fake. The logs are a bit concerning, but from the wording it doesn't sound like IP were logged, if it's only usage statistics, there's not really anything EuroPol can do with it, except for maybe track the people who happens to be connected at the time of the server seizure.

Noticed that darknetlive.com is linked on the sidebar for this sub. Maybe it should be removed until further notice.

I would recommend Twiiit to randomly redirect to a Nitter instance that's not dead/rate-limited, but it looks like it can select instances which are dead, redirect somewhere else, or are Clownflared. It's possible I'll have to message the owner about this, so for now, check the instance list to find an instance that's not slow or Clownflared. It might still eventually get rate-limited, though.

So that's why nitter.dark.fail is down too. Anybody know another good instance that isn't constantly rate limited?

Always wonder how people like this get caught. I mean, I'm glad that he was, but makes you wonder.
