If they don't have anything on you, they'll let you know within a month. If they do, though, they will take their sweet time providing records... I have an open request that has been processing for 2+ years now.

FFS that's a really long time. I figured it'd be a matter of months, not years.

How did you submit your request?

FBI eFOIA portal. The FBI happens to be pretty infamous for its long drawn-out response times, which is something I found out after I submitted my request.

I've wanted to do this as well. Figured though if you weren't on anyone's radar before, then you will be now. I was a bit taken back when I deleted all my social media accounts earlier in the year and downloaded the data that they had collected on me. I'm sure the alphabet boys have more, though I'm not sure what all they'd share.

If you haven't actually done anything to merit them investigating you (e.g. federal crimes, applying for a job with them requiring a background check) then not much. They certainly have access to a lot of data about you, but if they haven't slapped it in a report and filed it somewhere then it's not getting released under the FOIA. I only really bothered filing one for myself in the first place because I knew for sure there'd be something there.
