Fourth International accuses U.S. President of conspiracy to overthrow the US ConstitutionFor all my life there has been a canard (well, mostly a true one) that communists, and by extension socialists, are trying to overthrow the government and start a dictatorship. It therefore comes as a milestone when I see wsws.org, the Socialist Equality Party, a Trotskyist Fourth International group, accusing Donald Trump of conspiring to overthrow the government. Of course, it wouldn't be funny if they didn't in fact cite ample evidence.
I suppose the irony isn't so great as one would think, though. The fear of that particular assertion dates back through court decisions to the persecution of Eugene Debs, a socialist anti-war candidate who was, in the vilest way, deprived of his right to speak and run for office on the basis of a new doctrine, built entirely out of horseshit, that "yelling fire in a crowded theater". A crime that is never really prosecuted since people will just stonewall and say they smelled smoke, just like Trump's believers, the pardoned felons who now call for military intervention and prosecutions of any election officials who do their job. From the beginning, the government has always been "overthrown" from within. Maybe now people might see that.
