What is the community's thoughts on allowing an active member to be added as a mod to a forum that may have been abandoned?

Ex: Member123 creates "SomeForum", it gets some use but Member123 disappears for months

Then, another member who is active is interested in running that forum.

What are your thoughts on allowing this to occur? What do you feel is an appropriate time to determine a forum has been abandoned before assigning a new moderator to it?

I don't see anything wrong with assigning new moderator

I think maybe members of the forum should have a say. maybe saying the mod is unfit or doesn't moderate properly and voting who to reassign. so its more of a democracy.

If the original creator isn't around for a long time (tbd) then it should be up to the members of the forum to vote and decide if they would want the member who is interested to be a new mod

Guess it would depend on whether the active member is actually compatible with the forum, or just a hostile ubertroll or flamequeen looking to sabotage the forum from within. A forum on Free Speech would obviously not flourish under the iron fist of a leftist mod, nor would a pro-abortion forum survive under the fanatic domination of a drooling xtian.
