I don't know where most people come from, but I imagine that not everybody using ramble is American or lives in America. It might not be necessary to mirror everything reddit does.
Maybe US news specifically could go under /f/us_news or /f/news_usa? It would also make things predictable /f/<subject> = about the subject in general and /f/<country code>_<subject> = subject in country or from country's view/perspective.
